Lenovo Yoga 730

Lenovo Yoga 730 price and release date

It’s hard to improve upon the Lenovo Yoga 720 (which we gave a solid four star review) and it seems the company agrees, as it has announced a new 2-in-1 that only has very iterative changes.
There are two editions of the Yoga 730 for you to choose from: a 13-inch version or a 15-inch if you’re looking for a larger display.
We've had the opportunity to play with both briefly at MWC 2018, so read on below to see the latest from Lenovo's 2-in-1 range.
The smaller 13-inch edition of the Yoga 730 is set to be priced from $879 (about £625, AU$1100) in the US but we don’t currently have confirmed pricing for any other markets. If you want the 15-inch edition you’ll find prices start at $899 (about £640, AU$1120).
As for availability, Lenovo will start selling the Yoga range around the world from April 2018, although an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.

Design and display

If you’ve seen the Yoga 720 range before, there aren’t many major differences here for the 730. Instead of a ridged design where your fingers lie when the device is in tablet mode, Lenovo has thinned this to make it a little easier to hold.
We liked this little change as it was previously a little more difficult to hold, but it’s not a game changing piece of design.
The Yoga 730 is a touch lighter at 1.12kg for the 13-inch and 1.89kg for the 15-inch, which will be a welcome change for anyone put off the previous generation because of its weight.
The displays on both versions of the 2-in-1 look beautifully crisp and sharp with high resolutions, so you won’t be disappointed using these screens when in laptop or in tablet mode.
On the left-hand side of the 13-inch version are two Type-C Thunderbolt ports, but the Yoga 730 15-inch only has two USB-C 3 ports and a USB-C. The reason for this difference remains unclear at the moment.
The body is made entirely of aluminium and feels premium both in the hand and when in laptop mode too. The hinge technology made famous by the Yoga brand still works fantastically and allows you to switch seamlessly between the two modes.

Specs

Battery life on the Yoga 720 wasn’t a highlight of that product, and Lenovo’s estimations come in at 11 hours in Full HD mode for both.
Instead of packing in extra battery life, Lenovo has opted for a new rapid charging feature and estimates it’ll give you two hours of charge from just 15 minutes of charging time.
In terms of processing power, there will be lots of versions available up to 8th gen Intel Core i7 inside with up to 16GB of DDR4 on the 13-inch and up to 8GB DDR4 with 8GB DIMM in the larger one.
It's worth noting that if you plan to sketch on the Yoga 730, you'll need to buy a separate stylus to be able to do so.
For storage space you’ll be looking at up to 512GB in the 13-inch and 1TB in the 15-inch. It comes running Windows 10 right out of the box and has new Amazon Alexa features too.
That means you can run your smart home or use a variety of other Alexa skills from your 2-in-1 rather than needing to be right next to your Amazon Echo all the time. It’s a novel idea and if you’re already embedded into the Alexa ecosystem should work really well for you.

Early verdict

Not much seems to have changed in the Lenovo Yoga 720 range, but there are a few iterative upgrades that may impress you.
There probably aren't enough changes to make an upgrade worthwhile if you've recently bought 2-in-1, but if you’re running an older device and you’re looking for something to upgrade it with, the Lenovo Yoga 730 may be exactly the device you're looking for.

Google removes 'View Image' option from search results to curb image copyrights violations after Getty Images settlement

Google removes 'View Image' option from search results to curb image copyrights violations after Getty Images settlement

Users will no longer be able to directly download images from a Google Image search and will need to visit the website hosting it before doing so. This comes after Getty sued Google back in 2016 stating that the company makes it easier for people to download images directly without visiting the website hosting it.

Google has removed the ‘View Image’ option from its image search results and one will no longer be able to use the option for directly viewing and/or downloading images. The change comes after the company reached a settlement with Getty Images as the latter sued Google for making it too easy for people to steal, misuse and violate copyrighted image.
The View Image button was displayed alongside the visit website option. It would directly open the picture directly and let anyone download it with ease. Removal of the option will make it a bit harder for users to get to the image and download it as now they will need to visit a website and carry on from there.

Today we're launching some changes on Google Images to help connect users and useful websites. This will include removing the View Image button. The Visit button remains, so users can see images in the context of the webpages they're on.
However, this is seen as a response from Google, who has received a lot of flak from stock image hosting websites, publishers and photographers for making it easier for anyone to steal images, without detailing their copyright or licensing.
Alongside the Visit Image button, Google is also removing the Search by Image option which allows users to search for similar images. However, one can still drag and drop pictures to the search bar for doing so.
As mentioned earlier, this development is a result of Getty Images filing a complaint against Google back in 2016. Getty said, "Because image consumption (in Google Images) is immediate, once an image is displayed in high-resolution, large format, there is little impetus to view the image on the original source site," and accused Google of anti-competitive practices and "distorting search results in favour of its own services", which resulted in less users visiting their website for downloading images.

Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is the term used to describe technology that will replace how we currently use our computers and software applications. The concept of cloud computing is that any device (computer invention) connected to the internet can utilize a network of computing resources.

This would include infrastructure, applications and storage for far less than what it would cost to use your own hardware, software and resources.

Additionally, it allows users to have access to applications that they would not have otherwise. Access is as simple as using an interface application or just a web browser from any location. The cloud can allow access to millions of computers in an intelligent, scalable and redundant system with expert support. Similar to outsourcing, the difference and advantages of cloud computing are speed, efficiency, capability and cost, particularly with the increasing popularity of smart phones and tablets. It allows users to work from anywhere, to perform any task with any application, and to pay for only what you use.

Cloud computing is comparable to using email or online banking where you log into your account to access and manage your information. The software, applications and storage do not exist on your computer. But unlike your email or online banking services, clouds can perform complicated engineering tasks, schematics, modelling or mathematical computations, and it can do this in a cost effective and efficient manner.

Another major advantage to cloud computing is the reliability of service. Servers can crash, temporarily denying you online access to services and data. But cloud computing has multiple servers so you always have access. Some concerns about cloud computing are security and the effect it will have on the computer industry. The security concerns are similar to those regarding email and online banking. These have proven to have reliable security protocols therefore similar advanced technology has been adopted for cloud computing. It's anticipated that computer repair and maintenance, as well as IT employment /contracts will steadily decline as cloud computing rises in popularity.

There has been a proliferation of free public clouds appearing on the internet. These services, often referred to as SaaS (software as a service) are easy to use, fast, reliable and very good.

You can increase your use of cloud computing to meet a high demand on your resources and you can reduce your usage during low demand. This allows you to adapt to changing conditions without making significant long term investments in personnel, computers, software and operational costs.

Hopefully, cloud computing will assist independent inventors and small businesses to be more efficient and cost effective. At the very least, it's a levelling of the playing field.
