Google removes 'View Image' option from search results to curb image copyrights violations after Getty Images settlement

Google removes 'View Image' option from search results to curb image copyrights violations after Getty Images settlement

Users will no longer be able to directly download images from a Google Image search and will need to visit the website hosting it before doing so. This comes after Getty sued Google back in 2016 stating that the company makes it easier for people to download images directly without visiting the website hosting it.

Google has removed the ‘View Image’ option from its image search results and one will no longer be able to use the option for directly viewing and/or downloading images. The change comes after the company reached a settlement with Getty Images as the latter sued Google for making it too easy for people to steal, misuse and violate copyrighted image.
The View Image button was displayed alongside the visit website option. It would directly open the picture directly and let anyone download it with ease. Removal of the option will make it a bit harder for users to get to the image and download it as now they will need to visit a website and carry on from there.

Today we're launching some changes on Google Images to help connect users and useful websites. This will include removing the View Image button. The Visit button remains, so users can see images in the context of the webpages they're on.
However, this is seen as a response from Google, who has received a lot of flak from stock image hosting websites, publishers and photographers for making it easier for anyone to steal images, without detailing their copyright or licensing.
Alongside the Visit Image button, Google is also removing the Search by Image option which allows users to search for similar images. However, one can still drag and drop pictures to the search bar for doing so.
As mentioned earlier, this development is a result of Getty Images filing a complaint against Google back in 2016. Getty said, "Because image consumption (in Google Images) is immediate, once an image is displayed in high-resolution, large format, there is little impetus to view the image on the original source site," and accused Google of anti-competitive practices and "distorting search results in favour of its own services", which resulted in less users visiting their website for downloading images.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S leaked firmware suggests Sony IMX363 sensor, Android 8.0 Oreo, 3400mAh battery and more

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S leaked firmware suggests Sony IMX363 sensor, Android 8.0 Oreo, 3400mAh battery and more

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is likely to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and may feature 8GB LPDDR4X RAM

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 was one of the best looking phones to be launched last year and if rumors are to be believed, the company is working on a newer variant of the phone, called the Mi Mix 2S. A new leak pertaining to the phone suggests that the phone is indeed real. XDA confirms that one of the senior members of the XDA community has shared Mi Mix 2S firmware files with other XDA developers. XDA, which is the biggest community-based portal for all things Android, claims that it has confirmed the authenticity of the files and they are indeed from an unreleased device called the Mi Mix 2S. The code-name for the device is “Polaris” and the phone is suggested to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Xiaomi had already confirmed at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 launch that its upcoming flagship phones will use the new chip. The Snapdragon 845 is the new octa-core chip from Qualcomm which will bring Qualcomm’s 3rd gen Hexagon 685 DSP with enhanced AI functionalities and an all-new Qualcomm SPU (secure processing unit) which will store biometrics data in an isolated location. Previous rumors suggested that on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s, this SD845 supposedly be paired with an 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS storage. The phone is likely to have a 6-inch display with a 2160 x 1080p resolution. It is reported to feature a 3400mAh battery and run on Android 8.0 out of the box.
The phone is rumored to feature dual 12MP rear cameras with optical zoom and supported by four-axis image stabilization. The phone is suggested to feature a Sony IMX363 sensor. Also, the phone could be offered with dual-SIM functionality, might feature an IR blaster as well as a notification light. Previous reports suggest that Xiaomi might launch the phone at MWC later this month.
